the government of Trinidad and Tobago begins construction on a wall they say is part of a beautification project, but which many view as a tactic for hiding the squalor of a disadvantaged community, Attillah Springer says: “Build walls because, yes, this is what the nation needs. More division. Physical separation. Make it so that we on the outside don’t have to deal with what’s on the inside. Build it so that we can be even more suspicious and terrified of ourselves and know that them and us will love you for it.”

This is not good for the country. Eventhough they say it is good to divide the country i think it is bad because for the tourists and for the people who want to see their familie who live somewhere else. also if it is a disatvantaged cimmunity than you shouldnt hide for it but make it better.

corrected modernity essay

October 28, 2008

At the turn of the 20th century  the days are not the same as the ones in the  past, and because of a process of social and cultural changes, life now is better from the life in the past. This is mostly because people thought change should happen because it is progress and progress is good. Also the positive people thought that is is better to not look back but look forward. For men this change from argiculture to industrialization was a good step forward but for women it had a negative effect on their lives. The move from physical work to mechanized work has changed how men work, and, it has changed women’s workThan  men’s, physical work has declined but is replaced by mental work.

Many authors saw the history as a march of progress from the years that they experienced it. These authors such as “the economist” said that “The future is better than the past and that the society improved in things such as health, science, comfort and safety”. Also said that “ History is a series of stepping stones, each higher than the preceding one, onwards towards human and social perfection” it is basically saying everytime we move on it will get better than before. Also the author Jean antoine nicholas had this idea that in the future we  will be enlightend. “ one day each nation will arive at a point that leads to enlightment such as the French and Anglo’s americans.

Some authors saw the history not as a progress because they thought it made future worse instead of better. The author Walt Whitman said that “Our future will be uncertain”. Also the author Olive Schreiner didnt agree totally nor was not optimistic about the history as a march of progress because se thought that “The move from physical work to mechanized work has changed how men work, which in turn, has changed women’s work. And for men, physical work has declined but is replaced my mental work. The same is not true for women. Also “The changes that have taken place during the last centuries, and wich we sum in the compendious term modernism, have tended to rob women”. Here Olive Schreiner really critisizes women in their role of modernism. “Modernization is affecting men better than women. Also that woman should continue to do what they did before, social labour and productive”.

The present day is different from the past because of social and cultural change, therefore life now has improved from life in the past. These thinkers ofcourse had their own thoughts about this subject and out of their conlusion I can conlude that more thinkers thought that history is a march of progress. And in my opinion that is true. Also it might have damaged the role of the women but in the long run it will remain like that and men will always be more powerful than women. We never find what we are living now better than what we already have lived so why not just move on look back at the mistakes we have done and try to not do them in the future.

When did I start being aware of the world around me

September 24, 2008

I became aware of the world around me in 8th grade because in that grade I had Mr.Rugnetta as a teacher. Everytime when we walk into his class he had something writen on the bord about the current events. This helped alot to know what is happening around the world. He told us to look more often to the news, so I now look everyday before I go to school the news.

Also when we had the MUN everybody had to discuss with other delegates from other countries about the things that were the most important to that country. Wich was very intresting because I never did that before in my life. I did the MUN for two years and learned a lot about it. I think that everybody should have participated at least one year at the MUN becuase there you learn a lot about the current events and what the intrests are of each country.

Before I came to BFIS I knew not much about the current events but especially because of Mr. Rugnetta I watch more often the news and read El periodico and sometimes even look at the news on internet.

Hello world!
